Day 1: LIMA / IQUITOS / HELICONIA AMAZON RIVER LODGE
Upon arrival to Francisco Secada Vigneta Airport in Iquitos you will be taken to the river port of Bellavista Nanay, on the Nanay River, where we will then board a boat to start your trip down the Majestic Amazon River towards the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. You will be welcomed with a cold jungle drink upon your arrival at the jungle lodge. Afterwards, you will be shown to your rooms and then we’ll have lunch. After a brief rest we’ll take a guided hike through the forest as the guide identifies various botanical species such as medicinal plants and the amazing giant trees such as the Lupuna (Ceiba Pentandra). Return to the Lodge for rest and free time. After observing the Amazonian Sunset, we'll take a night boat ride on the Yanamono Lagoons. We´ll enjoy the magical sounds of the jungle . Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. Meet with a Shaman who will explain the Ayahuasca Ceremony.
Day 02: HELICONIA AMAZON RIVER LODGE
Early birdwatching tour by boat . We´ll also be able to see the world famous Victoria Regia (Giant Water Lilies). Return for breakfast at the Lodge. After a little rest we will visit a Village. You’ll be able to observe the customs and traditions of the native. Later, returning to the lodge, we’ll visit a Sugar Cane Still to learn about rum (aguardiente) preparation. Lunch. In the Afternoon we'll take a fishing trip on the Amazon streams. During the journey we will make a stop to try to observe the shy pink dolphins (Inia Geoffrensis) .Dinner - Persons participating in the Ayahuasca Ritual will have a special dinner. 10:00 p.m. Beginning of the Ayahuasca Ritual: In a specially selected place for this event. The ritual may last until sunrise depending on the number of persons.Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 03: VISIT TO A RIVERSIDE TOWN
Breakfast in the Lodge. Full day in a riverside town; where we'll be able to see the unique way of life of the people who live in this community. Return to the Lodge and rest. In the afternoon, we will take a trip to the "Tahuampas" (flooded jungle) by canoe for an hour where we will enjoy the marvelous landscape of the jungle. Dinner (Persons making the Ritual will have a special dinner) 10:00 p.m. Beginning of the Ayahuasca Ritual: In a special place selected for this event. The ritual may last until sunrise depending on the number of persons.Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 04: IQUITOS / LIMA
Breakfast in the Lodge. Transfer to the airport. |

EL AYAHUASCA
Es un brebaje alucinogeno y constituye la piedra angular del chamanismo y curanderismo en los pueblos de la Amazonia continental. Esta bebida es preparada haciendo hervir con agua por varias horas las partes vegetales de dos especies:
El tallo de la liana Banisteriopsis Caapi (fam.Malpighiaceae),cuyo nombre vulgar es de *Ayahuasca (vocablo quechua = Soga de los muertos);que coincide con el nombre del brebaje AYAHUASCA
Y las hojas del arbusto Psychotria viridis (fam.Rubiaceae),planta conocida como *Chacruna,yage,tupamaqui; ambas especies son consideradas como base de la preparacion del brebaje.
DIA Y NOCHE PREVIO A LA CEREMONIA
Despues del mediodia y/o despues del almuerzo, el paciente no debe comer carne de cerdo y debe abstenerse de todo tipo de licor, debera cenar poco.
LA CEREMONIA :
Tiene que ser es un lugar tranquilo sin perturbacion alguna y esto inicia a las 10:00PM con una duracion de 5 horas aproximadamente. Los efectos de vision, se van acercando mientras el chaman esta cantando, cada paciente tiene alucinaciones diferentes que luego seran interpretados por el chaman, al termino de la ceremonia.
BREVE DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA CEREMONIA.
Existen diversas formas de realizarla, esto esta en funcion, formacion y procedencia de cada shaman; tradicionalmente la ceremonia se realiza de preferencia los dias Martes y Viernes (aunque se puede realizarlo otros dias tambien ),iniciandose a partir de las 10:00 pm.;es dirigida por el maestro-shaman, quien con los asistentes se sientan formando un circulo.
El lugar tiene que ser semi-oscura y silenciosa. El shaman empieza la ceremonia ICARANDO (fumando y soplando) el brebaje con humo de Mapacho (nicotiana sp.)solicitando permiso al todo poderoso y a los espiritus de las plantas, para iniciar el ritual (no es necesario que el shaman beba pero algunos lo hacen tambien).
DESPUÉS DE LA CEREMONIA
Muy temprano 06 o 07am, el paciente tendra que ducharse con agua fria y no tomar alimentos hasta despues del mediodia
El efecto del brebaje alucinogeno se produce entre los 20 a 30 minutos de ingerido el liquido, El trance dura un promedio de 2 1/2 Hra a 3 hras, el final de la ceremonias realiza cuando el shaman vuelve a pasar la shacapa sobre los presentes, dirigiendo el humo de su cigarro (mapacho) sobre sus cabezas.(simbolo de bendicion).
